How slab commission is calculated

Most Indian sales teams pay a commission slab linked to how much of the monthly target each person achieves. Achievement % = achieved sales ÷ target × 100. This calculator supports the two common ways of applying slabs:

1. Whole sale at the reached slab (flat)

Once a salesperson crosses a slab, their entire month's sale earns that rate. Example with slabs 0% below 80%, 2% from 80%, 3% from 100%, 4% from 120%: Ravi has a ₹5,00,000 target and sells ₹5,60,000 = 112%. He is in the 3% slab, so commission = 3% × ₹5,60,000 = ₹16,800. Simple to explain, but a jump at each slab can push people to shift sales between months.

2. Step-wise (each band at its own rate)

Like income-tax slabs, only the sale inside each band earns that band's rate. For Ravi: ₹0–4,00,000 (0–80%) at 0% = ₹0; ₹4,00,000–5,00,000 (80–100%) at 2% = ₹2,000; ₹5,00,000–5,60,000 (100–112%) at 3% = ₹1,800. Commission = ₹3,800. Fairer and smoother, but lower payout for the same rates — so step-wise plans usually have higher rates.

Bonus and extra incentives

The bonus rule adds a flat amount when someone reaches a set achievement (e.g. ₹2,000 at 110%+). Use the per-person “extra” field for contest prizes or one-off awards. Payout / sales shows what the plan costs you as a % of revenue — most small businesses keep total variable pay somewhere between 1% and 5% of sales, depending on margin.

This is a calculator, not payroll or tax advice. TDS, PF and salary rules are not included.

Frequently asked questions

What is a slab-based sales commission?

A commission plan where the rate depends on how much of the target a salesperson achieves — for example 2% at 80–100% of target, 3% at 100–120% and 4% above 120%.

What is the difference between flat and step-wise slabs?

Flat: the whole month’s sale is paid at the slab reached. Step-wise: each part of the sale is paid at the rate of the band it falls in, like income-tax slabs. Step-wise pays less for the same rates.

How do I calculate target achievement percentage?

Achievement % = achieved sales ÷ target × 100. ₹3,40,000 achieved on a ₹4,00,000 target is 85%.

Is commission paid on sales or on profit?

This tool calculates commission as a % of achieved sales (revenue), which is the most common method. If you pay on margin, enter each person’s gross profit as “achieved” and their profit target as “target”.

Can I export the team commission sheet?

Yes — export a CSV for Excel or Google Sheets, print it, or share the summary on WhatsApp. Your data stays saved on this device.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?
